Johannes Fritzsch | Conductor

 

The German conductor Johannes Fritzsch is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, an inaugural position appointed in 2017. He previously held the position of Chief Conductor of the Graz Opera and Graz Philharmonic Orchestra in Austria. From 2008-2014, he was Chief Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra with which he maintains his relationship as the Conductor Laureate.

 

Johannes Fritzsch has conducted orchestras both within Germany and internationally, including the Hamburg Symphony, Düsseldorf Symphony, Philharmonie Essen, National Theater Orchestra of Mannheim, Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, Staatsorchester Halle, Swedish Radio Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique Strassbourg, the Orchestra National de Montpellier, the Orchestra National du Capitole de Toulouse, West Australian Symphony Orchestras, as well as the orchestras in Sydney, Melbourne, and Queensland.

 

Opera Companies with which he has worked include the S?chsische Staatsoper Dresden, Opernhaus K?ln, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Opera Bastille Paris, Graz Opera, The Royal Opera Stockholm, Malm? Operan and Opera Australia in Sydney and Melbourne.

 

In 2018 Johannes Fritzsch conducts for Staatsoper Hamburg, West Australian Opera, Opera Queensland, and makes major appearances with Xi’an Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

First-prize winner of the 2015 International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki – the first North American winner in its fifty-year history

First-prize winner of the 2015 International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki, Canadian-American violinist Christel Lee became the first North American winner in its fifty-year history. She was subsequently invited in December 2015 to perform with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and chief conductor John Storg?rds on the orchestra’s tour to Birmingham and Dublin in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sibelius. Her success in Helsinki has been preceded by numerous awards and distinctions, including the Second Prize and Audience Prize at the 2013 ARD International Competition in Munich.

 

As a soloist, Lee has appeared with orchestras such as the Finnish Radio Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Helsinki Philharmonic and Philharmonie Südwestfalen, KBS Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Aspen Sinfonia and the SWR-Stuttgart Radio Symphony. She is invited regularly to festivals across Europe and North America, among which include the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Mozartfest Würzburg and Kronberg Academy Festivals and makes her debuts in Gstaad, the Cantabile Festival in Lisbon and Settimane Musicali Ascona in Locarno.

 

Lee plays on a violin by Lorenzo Storioni from 1781, which has been kindly on loan to her from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben in Hamburg since 2015.
