美国电影演员，1915年1月24日生于康沓狄格州哈姆登。原名厄米斯·埃弗龙·博格宁。父母为意大利人，幼年时住在米兰，后返回康涅狄格州新哈芬读书。1935年参加海军，第二次世界大战结束时退伍，在哈特福德兰德尔戏剧艺术学校攻读表演。
